And so it begins. The first hammer hole in the drywall surrounding the rotted, ancient window; the first plume of insulation dust, like a celebratory firework; the first night spent covered in sweat, knowing that we are building a homey microcosm for our baby girl.
The nursery. Ohhhhh the nursery.
When Shannon bought the house, this room was a wet nightmare from top to bottom, inside and out. Even after several "patch" attempts to keep it dry and make it livable, it more often than not remains shut to the world, the pink elephant of our home that we want NOT to think about.
But it's the perfect size for a nursery, and...well...we'll be needin' one of those fairly soon. So the demolition begins. The walls are being hollowed out (replacing everything from studs to insulation to drywall to windows) and the "roof," if you can call it that, is getting ripped off and done correctly.
I welcome you to Day 1: Hammering, Ripping, Bagging.
Today's special guest: ANTS!!! That's right! 1,000,000 of our favorite insect friends, conveniently living in the moldy, decrepit insulation. You will note that I only have photos of the very beginning of Day 1. This is because I stayed far far far on the other side of the protective plastic curtain that is sealing off the nursery door once I heard: "OHMYGOD!....umm....you don't want to come in here." Noted!
We just picked up our crib and rocker after a long wait in layaway, and though the crib is staying compact in its little box until the walls are back in place, the rocker is hiding out in our reading corner and it is sooooo comfy! (Shhhh...I'm in it right now.)
Eventually, we're hoping that the nursery will look something like this:
We're takin' it one day at a time.
