So Kent State halloween this year (go Golden Flashes! I am officially an alumni now) was soooo crowded. Probably because it wasn't snowing or raining, which is an anomaly in northeast Ohio this time of year. As I write this, in fact, the wind and rain are beating against the office window, seven flights up. Yipes!

But anyhoo...it was so crowded that it was exceedingly hard to get photos of the amazing costumes, which TRULY is a shame. I offer these pics as a humble "I'm sorry," because they don't do it justice. Our motley little troupe went as a coven of witches, with me as the only "good witch" (Sammantha from 'Bewitched')...but honestly, I just really wanted to wear a big blonde wig. Is that so wrong?

I loooove Halloween. I have such fond memories of it, going as a laundry basket, a bat, a stewardess, a kiwi fruit (it rained, so I wore a green trash bag and a brown grocery bag over my head that said "KIWI" on the front), and so many other bizarre imaginings of my childhood.

We walked the town for a while to absorb the fabulousness that is human creativity (and the ability to buy fishnets and short skirts) and then went to Eat 'n Park at midnight to have some pie...wherein the idea was born that we should open a chain of restaurants for drunks and stoners called "Dude, Pull Over!"... Jenna devised this marketing plan:

Absentee

After a brief period of feeling on top of things at work, we are now back to that frenzied pace comparable to realizing you've survived a plane crash but are now alone on an island and there's a storm coming.

I've been so preoccupied with my own stupid junk that I have been THE WORST FRIEND EVER to so many people. I need an assistant, charged with the task of solving some of my current issues so that I can catch up with the people whose patience is waning.

I don't even know if I'm registered to vote in Cleveland. How lame is that? Not that I'm confident in this country's "voting system" anyway (fuck you, electoral college), but I'm off work on the 4th this year so I was actually planning to wander to whatever church or school or library will have me. Oh well. After the past two practical jokes of election years I just can't care anymore. Take my money, take my rights, whatever. All I do is sit in a tiny cube all day anyway. Why can't they take THAT away?

God I need some pumpkin pie. Maybe that would turn my frown upside down.

Braaaaains

A search under the deck was not forthcoming, nor was a stroll around the perimeter. <sigh> Last night we set some old clam chowder out on the back deck as a little treat for our jungle friends, and when I snuck down to open the wine I caught a big raccoon dining happily. "Awww look at you. Hello Mr. Raccoon----hey----no wait! Don't!" That raccoon looked me straight in the eyes, licked some chowder off his nose, then picked up the bowl, one of my best Rubbermaids, and RAN OFF. Little bastard! Somewhere out in our woods there is a smug little raccoon storing his scraps and nuts in one of my good containers. Grrrrrrrr.... Martha is displeased.

In other news, we carved a pumpkin today! And then I roasted the tasty seeds. Mmmm.... Here is a photo tour of the adventure.

         

The Cereal Hippopotamus

The bookmark is still in Donna Tartt's The Little Friend where I stopped reading when they called my name at the Social Security office to change my name. Ms. Collins at 8:48am and Mrs. Burger at 9:04.

I realized tonight that I don't recognize his hands. Could you, ladies, recognize the hands of your husband?

Truth: we are just investigating the possibility of a new therapist, but this one....this one actually told me that maybe I'm not the type of person who should get married. That I have "a pattern."

An excuse to buy and wear more dresses

So two of my bestest girlfriends and I have decided to enact "Sassy Dinner Date" (copyright Teniell Trolian), whereby we get dressed up and go out to eat every other week or so, at the hot spot of one of our choosings. I will of course be recording all of this on film, so expect SDD updates as we explore Cleveland.

I've really been trying to figure out more of the Cleveland area road systems and I think this will help me. Like I always say, if you would have told me even five years ago that I would be settling down in Cleveland I woulda punched you the neck. But here I am, trying to find my way and make my home.

And the fact that two of my most favorite people have somehow made their way here alongside me is no coincidence. I make friends with those to whom I am bound for life, so keep that in mind. ;)

Anyhoo... tomorrow night (Monday) we are going to Fahrenheit in Tremont, so I will be posting pics and a review. Stay tuned!
